May 17, 1942 - Too many soldiers

Sunday Morning

Dear Mom + Dad,

Just a short note as I wrote you last night. I’m puzzled about a few things. Did you receive the telegram I sent Mother on Mother’s Day? I have heard no mention of it in your last few letters. I hate like the devil to spend 38c out of my last dollar and then not have it arrive.

The other is my swimming trunks. They haven’t as yet arrived and you stated they were sent out before your last letter. I imagine they’ll arrive shortly.

You had better watch Nana’s toe if she has gangarene. It is a very serious infection and often spreads until it kills the person. About the only way to stop it is to cut it away and if it gets too deep amputation is often necessary. It is one of the worse things in war time and we spent quite a little time studying it.

I was in town last night at a U.S.O dance. I’m beginning to think I’m slipping as I can make no female acquaintances. Too many soldiers.

I received a letter from Mary at the same time yours came. Aren’t I popular.

That’s about all

Love Bob
