February 4, 1943 - Disgusted

Thursday Morning

Dear Mom + Dad,

I’m in again and a little disgusted with the whole set up.  I guess that is to be expected I suppose once in a while.  Its just that things are getting in an awful state around here.  Out tactical officers are on us from morn to night and it sure makes life unpleasant.  You just can’t get a minute of peace at all and that’s what’s getting me down.  Thing will look up again tomorrow as usual.  It is not only me that is disgusted but the whole bunch.  It is quite a time since I’ve written you in a blue vein.

Well it won’t be long now before we move out.  Just about a week if they ship us out on schedule.  But as my luck in the army runs, we’ll probably hang around here for awhile.  I’ll be really glad to move, mainly because of the flying, but because too, I get out of this deplorable situation.

I’m still looking forward to open port on Tuesday.  It helps make things a little easier to have something like that to look forward to.  Peg is a swell kid and I enjoy myself with her.  It is a shame we can’t get out more often but then –

My subjects are doing fine.  I have enough points now so I can relax if I want.  I only have to get about 20 in my final exams to pass the course.  Naturally I’ll get more and try the best I can but it is nice to know you have that margin.  I’d like to tell you the whole story of this place sometime.  I don’t have the time now perhaps someday when I see you I’ll give you a synopsis of it all.

I better quit now as you can see I’m disgusted.  I’ll try to do better tomorrow.  Incidentally I received a book from Mr. Blackshear and I appreciate it.  Thank him for it in person.  I’ll write him as soon as I get the time.

All my love
Bobby
