January 16, 1943 - Naval Identification / News Sounds Good in Russia

Saturday Evening

Dear Mom + Dad,

Well here it is Saturday and I will endeavor to scribble off a few more lines to you.  The biggest question around here seems to be when will our new class come in.  I imagine the will get here on Monday yet we are scheduled for an open post that day.  It wouldn’t be fitting or proper if they come in and we weren’t here to guide them.  But then open post should come first, I hope.  We are all afraid that we might not get it but I think we will.  It will seem swell to get into town for awhile.  As upperclassmen we will get to go every Wed if we are not flunking anything.

I am a little disgusted tonight for some reason and I think it is because of a class we had today.  In Naval identification our teacher rushed through 25 ships and by tomorrow we will have to know them for a test.  It sure will tax my memory to get them all tonight.  I’m going to get on it as soon as I finishing writing to you.  I want to get good marks if I can.

I’m listening to the news on my radio and the news sure sounds good in Russia.  I sure hope they keep up the good work they have started.  It looks like Germany is beginning to be on their last legs.

Well on to my battleships.  I’ll write again tomorrow.

Love

Bobby
