August 11, 1942 - Charge of Quarters

Tuesday Aft.

Dear Mom + Dad,

Another day and another short letter to you. This daily practice of writing you is rather hard as there is not a lot to say. So if they are short you will forgive me.

I’m working today as charge of quarters. It is a very easy job. All I have to do is to hang around the office and answer the phone. I have been reading and writing all day. I’d like this job all the time but it doesn’t come up very often so I guess I’ll have to be satisfied. Then too it gets rather tiresome after awhile.

I still haven’t received my pay as yet. It won’t come in today either. It is now up to the finance office of the camp. I’m pretty sure that it will though in a few days though. I’m not worried about it as long as I get it before the weekend rolls around.

I feel a lot better today that old Sal Hepatica really fixes me up good. It is tough to feel bad down here as the heat takes all your pep anyway and then to have a bad stomach on top of it you are just short of dead. I’m glad that I’m back in shape again.

I can’t think of much else to say so I’ll quit until tomorrow. Oh yes, we have started back to classes again. I’m to get my basic training all over again. Perhaps after I’m in the army 5 or 6 years I might know the stuff but I guess I don’t now. I’ve only been in six months.

I miss you and wish I were home but that isn’t possible until that big furlough comes, the one at the end of the war. Write me.

Love
Bob
