Thursday Eve.
Dear Mom + Dad,
Enclosed you will find a check for $1.50. A few weeks ago the Southern Pacific wrote to me starting that I might have paid to much fare and would I send them the enclosed blank. I did stating where I went and what I paid. Today this arrived in the mail for me. Isn’t it wonderful.
I’m sending it home as the red tape I would have to go through to get it cashed is not worth the trouble. I have to have it signed by an officer, go into town and then prove my identification. All a lot of bother for $1.50. You can cash it much easier than I can.
Anyway I want a few things I can’t get here that this will help defray the expense of. I want you to get me a pair of drumsticks; mine are all shot and I can’t buy them here. Go to Dunlap’s and get me a pair of lightweight sticks of the cheapest variety and ship them out to me. Also I need some white cotton socks. You can get them for about 25c as I want them as work socks. Get me 5 or 6 pairs as I’m hard on them. If you would do these things for me I’d appreciate it a great deal.
I’m still running around doing my basic training all over again. It is getting on my nerves doing these darn things over + over again. For example; I’m taking anatomy and physiology for the third time and it is the same stuff, not to mention, bandaging first aid etc. Perhaps the worst feature is going to the movies. They have training films on different phases of military life. We have to wait until dark so as to see them and it completely ruins an evening. It wouldn’t be so bad except for the fact I’ve seen them all at least once some 2 or 3 times. Do you wonder why I get fed up now?
The non com school is still going strong. I gave a demonstration before our company commander today and did all right. I’m beginning to get leary of that to. I’m beginning to think nothing will come of it. It will probably be just another headache with no results as far as ratings go. I’ll just have to wait and see and hope for the best.
My application for the air cadets is all set and I’m sending it in to the office the first thing in the morning. If I make it, it will take a long time before I actually get in as they have a long waiting time.
The news is looking up a little. I sure hope we keep going.
I’ll write tomorrow.
Love
Bob

John-I remember the store Dunlaps quite well in Peeskill. This is the store where Poops & Mom bought my first electric guitar and amp. I was trying to remember the name of that store a while ago and couldn't recall it's name until I read Poops letter wanting drum sticks
