Monday Evening

Dear Dad,

Just a short not about the income tax. Your letter arrived this morning with it in it. I think it will be easier if you pay for it and settle the thing up. It is only $10, is that correct? It will make it a lot simpler for me. I would have a tough job finding a commissioned officer to get his signature. If it isn’t too hard pay it. If so let me know I’ll pay it out of my salary. O.K?

Thanks for the stamps. I really appreciate them. Also Cousin Elmers letter was read and duly appreciated. What a sense of humor. That’s my pup! Tell Ma to take care of herself and get well in a hurry. Express my sympathies.

What a schedule we have this week. An inspecting general was in today and we have to put on one of our lovely field inspections plus a parade and a lot of applesauce. Another inspection takes place on Thursday for someone from the War Department. Some fun!

I have K.P. tomorrow to add to my worries. Then two nights this week we have evening exercises. We have a ten mile hike one evening which lasts until 12 P.M. The night after we have to practice picking up casualties in the field in the dark. We return around 11:30. So you can see we have a tough schedule this week. Next week we go out for 2 nights + 3 days on a camping trip.

If you don’t hear from me this week it will be because I have no time to write. So don’t be anxious about it. I’ll write as soon as possible.

We have been issued new clothing and have increased our wardrobe considerably. I guess I have enough stuff now.

I’ll write again soon.

Love Bob

P.S. I’m signing it just in case.
