July 1, 1942 - Hanging Around

Wednesday Morning

Dear Mom + Dad,

Just another short note to help pass my time away. This is my third day here and we still haven’t done anything as yet. It is beginning to get rather tiresome hanging around and yet when I think of working in this hot sun I guess it is all right so I won’t complain.

I still haven’t got the set up around here. I can’t make out just what or when we are going to do anything. I suppose though that they will start to catch up with us pretty soon.

I can’t remember if I thanked you for the cigarettes or not. If I didn’t I’m doing it now. Just a gentle reminder that I smoke Camels and not Luckies.

Out Post Exchange here sells beer the first army camp I’ve been in that has. I’ve been drinking 2 bottles every night but it isn’t too good.

The nights around here are very beautiful as it cools down and is marvelously clear. We sit around out tent and sing songs and we have a fellow who plays the guitar. It is a lot of fun.

I might get a letter today and if it should arrive I’ll write you again this evening.

Love
Bob

P.S. You can send me some money when you get a chance
