September 7, 1942 - Save My Letters - They Might Be Interesting . . .

Monday Evening

Dear Mom + Dad,

Your letter of Thursday arrived today. I think it came in yesterdays mail but I missed it as I slept through it and no one got it for me from mail call. It doesn’t really make much difference as long as it arrived. Incidentally I got a letter from Marion today also. I’ll answer that later this evening.

I was very glad to hear you are going to be Mahopac. I’d sure like to be out there with you. I guess all my mail will store up home for a week now with you out there. Oh well. I’ll still continue my daily letters.

It is a darn shame that you didn’t get a letter from me that day. 5 in three days isn’t bad so don’t feel to bad about it. It sure is strange that they pile up so. I write them every evening and send them out in the mornings mail. By sights you should get one everyday with 2 on Monday because of no mail on Sunday. I guess that is just another deal that Uncle Sam has messed up. You’ll just have to make the best of the situation.

They sure must be busy down at the plant for it seems in every letter you tell me of more overtime. You must be getting rich now. All that extra work and me living on the government. I bet you sure will appreciate the week off all the more now. You sure deserve it.

The trouble with Vin is that he is independent. You just can’t seem to get him to do the work when you want it. He does do good work and is just about as reasonable as anybody so I guess it is all right. I’d rather that he had it than any garage man I know of.

I got my application for the absentee ballet today. I sent it in right away so it is all taken care of. I’ll be able to vote this year, even though I’m out here in California.

Not much new has developed around here so there’s not much news. The latest out is that all the technicians are to get private first class (one stripe) ratings. That will mean me if it goes through. It will mean a 4 dollar raise. It really doesn’t mean a thing so I don’t care particularly if I get one or not. It would be of no particular advantage so I’m not worrying about it.

Well have a good time on your vacation. I’m quitting for now. By the way, I hope you are continuing to save my letters. They might be interesting to read after this mess is all over.

Love
Bob
