Thursday Afternoon.
Dear Mom + Dad,
I’m writing this letter in class thus the pencil. I have some news that developed today that I want to tell you. They are screwing up the schedule completely around here. I told you about going to the hospital twice a week for a half day. They’ve changed all that now. We go into the hospital for 1 week, class 1 week and then back to the hospital. This is all new as it was not the way it was set up before. I have been assigned to the general surgery ward, patients before or after an operation. First they had me assigned to the operating room and then it was changed. I would have liked to worked there but I guess I won’t get the chance.
My duty hours are supposed to be 7 to 7 for 7 days a week. They tell me that the hours are changed though and you get more time off than that. I sure hope so. I start out on the new routine first thing tomorrow. I work only until Tuesday this week which gives me a break. However it really knocks the devil out of my weekend.
This plan means one of two things. Either they are giving us our special practice and then shipping us for overseas duty. Or else they are breaking us in to take over up there as they are building a lot of new additions to the hospital. I hope it is not the later as I want to move out of Texas if possible.
I expect thought to see overseas duties very soon after getting out of here as there is a terrific demand for technicians. It will be twice as bad as soon as the offensive I think we are going to make gets under way.
This is about all for now. I’ll drop you a line soon and let you know about my new work.
