Saturday Morn.
Dear Mom + Dad,
Just a short note to acknowledge receipt of Dad’s letter at last. It sure takes a long time for mail to get here. That letter took 5 days to get here. I think that is a little unusual as I have been getting them faster. The letter mother sent me air mail came before the one you mailed on Sunday.
I have today off plus Sun + Monday. I start work again Tuesday. It is a shame I’m not nearer home as I could go home on a 3 day pass. A lot of the fellows from Texas are off for home on them. It is too bad I have to be 2800 miles away. Anyway it is very nice to have the time off. A new group of fellows move into tomorrow or Monday to start school. The men around change every month.
If you can find any of my brown socks that are any good will you send them down. I also would like to have 4 or 5 pairs of suntan socks. They are regulation army and are a light tan color, solid. If you could send me a few pairs I’d appreciate it. I bought 3 pairs in Abilene but they are fairly well shot. The army furnishes one pair of sun tan socks + two pairs of white. Then they have the nerve to tell you to change socks 3 times a day if your feet sweat. The irony of it.
Payday tomorrow + I’m going to Juarez to see a little of Mexico. I’ll write you again tomorrow or Monday.
