Tuesday Morning
Dear Mom + Dad,
I received your letter yesterday and expect Dad’s tomorrow so I’ll answer today. I also received a letter from Leota which I intend to answer right after this one. It was good to hear from her.
The heat here is beginning to drive me crazy. I thought we had hot weather back east but that is nothing compared to this. In the afternoon + early evening you feel like dying, no ambition, sweat poring off you etc. I never can get enough water to drink. Two minutes after I have a drink I’m thirsty again. I must drink 5 gallons of water a day without exaggeration.
All this week we are having tests. I haven’t hit a hard one yet. My average has dropped a little to about 88 because I can’t study because of the heat. We finish up the first month this Friday and we are off until Monday. Some of the boys are getting three day passes to go home. That is the disadvantage of being so far away. It takes a 10 day furlough before you can get home. I hope to get one in another month or so. I’m going to try like the devil to get one.
I haven’t got much to say outside of the heat except pay day comes the end of the week. I hope it comes before the weekend for if it don’t I’ll be broke and will have to stay in on Saturday night, which would be drastic. Oh well I guess I won’t die from it. I’ll drop you a line tomorrow when I probably will get Dad’s letter.
