Saturday P.M.
Dear Mom + Dad,
I’ve been neglecting you for the last few days as I’ve been pretty busy. I’ve been making out fairly well down here. I had two tests all ready and have made a 100 on one and 90 on the other. All my practical work I have been receiving good marks too. So, so far I have been doing fairly well. The course itself isn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be. I’m getting the hang of it and I can almost write the test before it is given. Last week I figured 7 out of the 10 questions before we had the test.
Tomorrow we start to wear our summer uniforms. It is about time as I’ve been sweating like the devil in the winter woolens. They gave us two suits and two shirts of sun tan garbedine. It is going to awful tough to keep clean. You can’t wear one for more than two days. So that will mean one will be in the cleaners all the time. I have only one hat of the same color and when thats being cleaned I have to stay home. The army gives you everything you need but not enough of them. I’ll have to buy a set if I can scrape up a few extra dollars.
I had a date last night with a girl in town. One of my friends got the date for me. We went over to the Hilton Hotel to dance. Of course I was in early as on a weekday I have to be in 11:30. I managed to have a good time.
Tonight I’m going to town to go to a U.S.O. dance. I also might go swimming before I dance at the Y. It is pretty nice to have a place to go. There are a few nice places in El Paso but they are numbered.
It seems every camp I go into the inspecting general comes around. He is coming to visit us tomorrow. I don’t know yet if we are going to have to work or not. We probably will if I’m any judge. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
I guess that is about all for now. I’ll try and write again tomorrow night. Don’t forget to send my swimming trunks as the pool is open. I’m off for town.
